Don’t make these mistakes when visiting Machu Picchu. Visiting the sacred city in the mountains, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is undoubtedly a magical experience. However, it requires thorough preparation, as several aspects need to be well-planned – from trains and buses to hotels and choosing the right tour. That’s why I don’t recommend planning this trip on your own, especially visiting this historic site without a guide, as your experience might not be perfect.

Je důležité plánovat návštěvu Machu Picchu dopředu, protože zejména během letních prázdnin, kdy je nejlepší doba na návštěvu, bývají lístky často vyprodané na několik týdnů dopředu. Podobná situace může nastat i s vlaky. Můžete se tak dostat na jiný okruh, než byste si přáli. Proto je dobré začít plánovat návštěvu co nejdříve, jakmile to bude možné.

It’s important to plan your visit to Machu Picchu in advance because, especially during the summer holidays, which is the best time to visit, tickets are often sold out weeks ahead. A similar situation can occur with trains, which might result in having to join a different tour than you would prefer. Therefore, it’s a good idea to start planning your visit as early as possible.

We visited Machu Picchu with View Peru – professionals who organize luxury tours for their clients. We chose a two-day tour with an overnight stay in Machu Picchu Pueblo and a train ride from Cusco, which is the most common tourist option. However, if you’re interested in the Inca Trail (a hiking trek that takes you to Machu Picchu after 4-5 days), they also offer a luxury glamping option on their website, as well as the well-known Salkantay trek. View Peru helped us organize our visit down to the last detail, select the tour that seemed best for us, and thanks to their guide, we learned a lot of new information about this historical gem.

I když se ráno mohou zdát fronty na autobus dlouhé, organizace je vynikající. Jakmile dorazíte na Machu Picchu, davy lidí se rozprostřou do různých okruhů a vy si můžete užít klidnou prohlídku bez velkého množství turistů. Počet návštěvníků je omezen na určité hodiny, takže jsem byla příjemně překvapená, jak pohodová návštěva to byla a kolik prostoru jsme měli na objevování, focení a další aktivity.

Although the tourist train from Cusco is very comfortable, you still have to endure a four-hour journey through the Andes, which can be tiring for some travelers due to the altitude. I recommend arriving in Machu Picchu Pueblo the day before, resting after the journey, and then simply taking the bus in the morning. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes and will take you directly up to Machu Picchu. Although the lines for the bus in the morning might seem long, the organization is excellent. Once you arrive at Machu Picchu, the crowds disperse into different areas, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful visit without large numbers of tourists. The number of visitors is limited to certain times, so I was pleasantly surprised by how relaxed the visit was and how much space we had for exploring, taking photos, and other activities.

Hotel Ferré Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) je kouzelná vesnička bez aut, kam přijíždí pouze vlak. Je známá svými termálními prameny a my jsme zde našli ideální hotel pro vaši noc! Hotel Ferré Machu Picchu nabízel vše, co bylo potřeba pro dokonalý odpočinek po cestě a navíc se nachází kousek od vlakové zastávky. Prostorná ložnice s příjemnou teplotou a nádhernými výhledy na řeku a okolní hory byla zážitkem sama o sobě. Usínat za zvuku řeky a probouzet se do kouzelného horského panoramatu, bylo naprosto úžasné. A to není vše! Skvělá bufetová snídaně podávaná v 6. patře s ještě lepším výhledem, byla dostupná již od 5 hodin ráno a byla perfektním začátkem dne. Mohli jsme si vybrat z bohaté nabídky čerstvých džusů, ovoce, pečiva, vajíček a mnoha dalších chutí. Pokud hledáte pohodlný hotel pro relaxaci, rozhodně doporučuji Hotel Ferré.

Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) is a charming village without cars, where only trains arrive. It is known for its thermal springs, and we found the perfect hotel for an overnight stay! Hotel Ferré Machu Picchu offered everything needed for a perfect rest after the journey and is also located close to the train station. The spacious bedroom, with a pleasant temperature and stunning views of the river and surrounding mountains, was an experience in itself. Falling asleep to the sound of the river and waking up to a magical mountain panorama was absolutely amazing. And that’s not all! The excellent buffet breakfast, served on the 6th floor with even better views, was available from 5 a.m. and was the perfect start to the day. We could choose from a rich selection of fresh juices, fruits, pastries, eggs, and many other delights. If you’re looking for a comfortable hotel for relaxation, I definitely recommend Hotel Ferré.

Proč je dobré navštívit Machu Picchu s průvodcem / Why It’s Great to Visit Machu Picchu with a Guide

Ráno, odpočinutí po cestě vlakem, jsme se vydali potkat našeho průvodce, který na nás čekal u autobusu a společně jsme vyrazili nahoru. Machu Picchu bylo postaveno na opravdu úžasném místě – výhledy na okolní hory a strategická poloha, která město přirozeně chránila, byly samy o sobě zážitkem. Náš průvodce nám podrobně vysvětlil veškerou historii a nejrůznější zajímavosti, které znal, což udělalo z návštěvy opravdu nezapomenutelný zážitek. Myslím, že je to jedno z nejkrásnějších míst, které jsem kdy navštívila! Místo má nesmírně kouzelnou a posvátnou energii. Ranní mlha, která zahalila horu a některé části města do oparu, tuto atmosféru ještě více umocnila… a jsem si jistá, že na celém světě jen těžko najdete místo, jako je toto.

Rested after the train journey, we went to meet our guide, who was waiting for us at the bus, and together we headed up. Machu Picchu was built in an absolutely stunning location – the views of the surrounding mountains and the strategic position that naturally protected the city were remarkable experiences in themselves. Our guide provided detailed explanations of the history and various interesting facts, making the visit truly unforgettable. I believe it’s one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited! The site has an incredibly magical and sacred energy. The morning mist that shrouded the mountain and parts of the city only enhanced this atmosphere… and I’m sure it’s hard to find a place like this anywhere else in the world.

Machu Picchu, často označované jako „ztracené město Inků“, je starobylé incké město ležící vysoko v Andách v Peru. Bylo postaveno v 15. století za vlády inckého císaře Pachacutiho a sloužilo jako královské sídlo a náboženské centrum. Machu Picchu, often referred to as the ‘Lost City of the Incas,’ is an ancient Inca city located high in the Andes in Peru. It was built in the 15th century during the reign of Inca emperor Pachacuti and served as a royal residence and religious center. The city was meticulously designed using advanced construction techniques, including precise stonework without the use of mortar, which ensured its resistance to earthquakes. After the Spanish invasion, it was abandoned and forgotten until it was rediscovered in 1911 by American historian Hiram Bingham. Today, Machu Picchu is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world, recognized as one of the Seven Wonders and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Po naší prohlídce jsme se autobusem vydali zpět do Machu Picchu Pueblo, kde jsme měli několik hodin na oběd a případné objevování vesnice, místního trhu a poklidné atmosféry, než nám jel vlak zpátky do Cusca.

After our tour, we took the bus back to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where we had a few hours for lunch and to explore the village, the local market, and its peaceful atmosphere before the train departed back to Cusco.

Byla jsem velmi vděčná za organizaci celého výletu od View Peru, protože většinou jsem to já, kdo všechno organizuje a pak jsem polovinu času nervózní, jestli stihneme autobus nebo vlak atd. Díky jejich týmu, který nás vyzvedl u hotelu a zařídil všechny přesuny, průvodce a rezervace, jsem se mohla soustředit jen na samotný zážitek, což bylo naprosto perfektní. Navíc vše probíhalo přesně podle plánu a celý výlet se velmi vydařil. Pokud plánujete navštívit Machu Picchu, rozhodně doporučuji View Peru všemi deseti!

I was very grateful for the organization of the entire trip by View Peru because, usually, I’m the one who handles all the arrangements and then spends half the time worrying about whether we’ll catch the bus or train, etc. Thanks to their team, who picked us up at the hotel and handled all the transfers, guides, and reservations, I could focus solely on the experience itself, which was absolutely amazing. Everything went exactly according to plan, and the entire trip was a great success. If you’re planning to visit Machu Picchu, I definitely recommend View Peru 10 out of 10!
