Switzerland is famous for many things—precision, mountains, watches, and chocolate. After spending a rainy weekend in Zurich, I’d add one more to the list: the feeling that time has value. Everything runs exactly when it should, every detail seems carefully considered, and even though it’s one of the world’s most expensive cities, you understand what you’re paying for.
Even though it rained almost the entire weekend, Zurich still managed to impress me with its charm, precision, and attention to detail. Walking through the picturesque Old Town, passing colorful buildings and small local shops, and, of course, tasting some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had made the city feel elegant, polished, and unmistakably Swiss—even under grey skies.
B2 Hotel Zürich
One of my favorite discoveries was B2 Hotel Zürich. Hidden inside a former brewery, this stunning café is surrounded by more than 33,000 books, making it the perfect place to escape the rain with a coffee, a good book, or even a few hours of work.
For an even cozier afternoon, I visited Hürlimannbad & Spa, located in the same historic brewery. With beautiful architecture, thermal pools, relaxing saunas, and a rooftop infinity pool overlooking the entire city of Zurich, it’s the perfect place to unwind—especially if the Swiss weather isn’t cooperating.
No trip to Switzerland would be complete without cheese, so I had to stop by Raclette Stube. Whether you choose fondue or raclette, it’s exactly the kind of traditional Swiss experience you hope for: warm, cozy, and absolutely delicious.
Another place that surprised me was Hiltl, which proudly calls itself the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Their buffet offers an incredible variety of fresh vegetarian dishes, proving that Zurich’s food scene has much more to offer than just cheese and chocolate.
Zurich surprised me in more ways than one. It’s modern yet historic, elegant yet welcoming, incredibly precise… and yes, your wallet will definitely notice you’re in Switzerland. But between the amazing food, beautiful streets, and unique experiences, I’d say it’s worth every franc.
